Kathryn Rose Whalen

Kathy Whalen, the oldest of four children, born to Marilyn (Watters) and Thomas Whalen, died on January 19th at Canonsburg Hospital. Kathy was strong and fiercely independent. From an early age she was passionately protecting her younger siblings, Evelyn, William & Tommy. She always enjoyed a good party, whether hosting friends at home for a cookout or joining them for a night on the town. But she absolutely hated the Syracuse snow and winter cold and once her eldest daughter was settled post-college, Kathy moved to sunny Orlando, Florida where she settled into a more comfortable season of life. She worked for 20 years at Schuler Packaging & Design (Dependable Packaging Alternatives), retiring in 2023. Her hobbies included reading, bowling, horror movies, soaking in the sun around her pool and caring for her many cats over the years. Kathy truly had a passion for animals and nature. She enjoyed sending love and cards to her grandchildren and through the blessing of social media and ancestry records, was able to re-connect with her younger daughter and grandchildren later in life.

She will be remembered by her daughters, Bridgette (Don) Coleman and Mary (Larry) Needham, grandchildren Sean, Emily and Aidan Needham and Brennan, Aidan and Bria Coleman, along with her sister Evelyn (Paul) Wrobleski and brother William (Deb) Whalen. She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Tommy.

The family asks that contributions be made in Kathy's name to the Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 PA-136, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or www.washingtonpashelter.org.

Private services were entrusted to Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Rd., Cecil, PA 15321.
