Mary Cecilia Altieri

Mary Cecilia Simonelli Altieri, 96, of Cecil, died Sunday, March 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 21, 1926, in Westland, PA, a daughter of John B. Simonelli and Albina Bolner Simonelli.

During World War II, she worked in a hand grenade factory, followed by time spent working in the Blue Star Potato Chip Factory. After marrying her loving husband, she spent the rest of her years as a homemaker and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mary Altieri was a member of St. Mary's Church in Cecil, the Hilltoppers, and TOPS, and enjoyed bowling in the Altieri Family Bowling League.

Mary loved chocolate, family gatherings, and Christmas. She also loved shopping, especially at Macy's, Kraynak's, and QVC, having coffee with family, and eating a bowl of chocolate ice cream before bed.

On May 5, 1951, she married Guy A. Altieri, Jr. They were married for 70 years before his death on July 30, 2021.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Astuto (Rodney) of Cecil, a son, James R. Altieri (Michele) of Washington; three granddaughters, Alayna Astuto Rode (Jordan), Amanda Altieri Hoskins (Devon), and Melissa Altieri, all of Washington; two great-granddaughters, Devi and Kendall Hoskins; her cousin and best friend, Gloria Malesky of Canonsburg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Deceased are two sons, Guy A. Altieri III and Bradley Altieri; and four brothers, John "Jay," Albert "Skimmer," Victor, and Joseph Simonelli.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 15th, in the Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, PA 15321 where prayers of transfer will be said Thursday, March 16th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, Cecil at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in Venice Cemetery.
