Dolores Mae Zupancic

Dolores Mae Zupancic (Grandma Babe), 90, of Cecil, peacefully passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, surrounded by her children.

She was born September 18, 1932, in Sturgeon, a daughter of the late Wilber and Bertha Plance Bykens.

Dolores worked at Kmart, Ames department store, and the pharmacy at Giant Eagle in McDonald.

She was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church. Dolores was a beloved mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and always gave a birthday and Christmas card. Grandma Babe loved spending time with her grandchildren and occasionally attended their sports games and other extracurriculars. She also had an angel fish tank that she cared for with her grandchildren, creating cherished memories. Dolores’ favorite time of year was Christmas, where she enjoyed making her special gullet cookie recipe with her daughters. She also had one of the best Christmas tree displays, with a beautiful Christmas village decorating the bottom of the tree. Cooking was one of her favorite activities, from making a big holiday meal to feed her family to baking lots of bread. Members of the Zupancic family fondly remember she made the best roast chicken in the world, and she loved to can vegetables from her garden. Dolores’ children often gifted her flowers for most holidays because she loved flowers and plants. In her free time, she enjoyed completing word searches, watching John Wayne westerns, keeping up with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers, finishing jigsaw puzzles, listening to western music like Conway Twitty, and watching Lifetime movies.

Surviving are children, Linda (John) Cheroke; Amy (Steven) Springfield; Carol Winter, all of Canonsburg; Cindy Lewis (Companion Jay McLaren) of Houston; Shari (Thomas) O’Rourke; Anthony (Rick) Zupancic, both of Cecil; Tammy (Robert) Miller of Muse; Michael (Carla) Zupancic of Moon Township; grandchildren Patricia, James, Genie, Amanda, Jamie, Erica, Nicholas, Jeffrey, Marissa, Josh, Meghan, Heather, Danielle, Shannon, and Rylie; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Marion ‘Sis’ Fleeher of Cecil.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband August Lewis, second husband Anthony Zupancic, two granddaughters Melissa Lynn O’Rourke and Lindsay Scinio Estep, son-in-law David Winter, and brother Kenneth John Bykens.

To honor Dolores’ wishes, a private ceremony was held with her children at Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, PA 15321, followed by a burial in Robinson Run Cemetery.

Donations can be made in her honor to the American Heart Association.
